Class 1: Union as Stillness

20 mins

We open the series with Sūtras I.2–I.4—the classic definition of yoga and its immediate consequences. David unpacks the “power words”: yoga (union, devotion), citta as the field of consciousness, vṛtti as its turnings/occupations, and nirodhaḥ as the skill of stilling/cessation. When the turnings quiet, the seer abides in their own intrinsic essence (svarūpa); when they don’t, we identify with the thought-stream and a persona forms. The talk ties this to dharma (cosmic order and one’s peculiar work) and closes with Baul poetry that invites the question, “Who am I, and who is the one who sees?”
