Class 4: Backbends of Third Series

89 mins

A progressive backbend lab that links Upward Dog mechanics to the whole Third-Series arc. We start by coordinating the toe push, head circle, and spinal lift “off” strong limbs, then take those principles into Śalabhāsana, Bhēkāsana (one-side, then both), and dynamic Dhanurāsana reps. From kneeling, we train Uṣṭrāsana with blocks and wall—legs/arms first, then spine—before building toward Kapotāsana variations (strap, chair support, and drop-back prep). Next, we workshop controlled dropbacks (wall → chair → floor), including one-leg variations and the Vīparīta Daṇḍāsana pathway: safe drop-over methods, returns, and a gentle tic-tac drill (over and back). Standing work refines Utthita Hasta Pādāṅguṣṭhāsana mechanics and balanced Natarājāsana (strap and two-hand catches), then finishes with Hanumanāsana progressions that keep the pelvis as upright as possible. Throughout, the refrain is constant: root limbs, then lift the spine, move in crouch → spring → destination rhythm, and use props (blanket, blocks, chair, wall, strap) to make precise, repeatable gains.
