Kapotasana Class 1

24 mins

This class introduces Kapotāsana step by step, treating every entrance as a crouch-and-spring. From Down Dog, leap to kneeling Samasthiti, then extend arms overhead so the hands lead the dropback—followed by head, spine, and finally pelvis. Legs remain tree-trunk steady: adducted, parallel, and resisting the urge to splay or counterweight forward. We explore progressions: fingertip touches at the wall, forearms-on-wall variations, and chair landings (arms extended or elbows bent). Blocks at different heights create a “T station” where students can walk hands across and use leverage to spiral the spine upward while staying tall. Variations include Namaste-hands dropbacks for those hesitant with arms extended. The emphasis is on repeating what you want to reinforce: practicing desirable actions (steady legs, high chest, tall arch) at each station before moving deeper. Inside the full pose, shins and forearms root while hands or blocks provide leverage to tighten the spinal coil, opening the front body by strengthening the back. Kapotāsana is presented not as contortion, but as rare territory of deep absorption, discipline, and full-body participation. Model - Delara Tiv
