Ustrasana Class 2

14 mins

This class explores Uṣṭrāsana (Camel Pose) as a study in planes, arches, and steady foundations. We begin by identifying the side-plane line of the body and training the backbend so no part of the pelvis moves forward of that plane. Using tall blocks, students rehearse keeping the tallest arch possible—legs adducted, internally rotated to neutral, braced, and unmoving—while arms and shins ground to support spinal lift. Mini-vinyāsas follow: from vertical crouch, head leads the entrance, chest leads the exit, repeated rhythmically with clear exhale/inhale cues. Progressions include lowering block height, tucking toes for ankle flexion, and finally pointing toes for the classical form. Attention is given to vertical stacking (hip over knee, shoulder–elbow–wrist in line) and intelligent customization—choosing blocks, ankle flexion, or wider stance if verticality and leg discipline can’t be maintained. The class closes with exits into compact lift-ups and Chaturanga holds, reinforcing the strength dimension of the vinyāsa.
